Local officers find crack, weed and cash during routine traffic stop, SAPD says

Not sure how often this sort of thing happens, but a friendly reminder to the citizens of San Antonio: when an officer asks for permission to search your car, you do not have to consent to a search. Pretty simple.

According to the article, the man was searched first and they found the drugs on him (his body, not car) before searching the car and finding the money in the car.

He lost his right to say no to a search of his car when the drugs were found on him.

not sure who would say yes. the last time i was pulled over, they asked if they could search. i said sure, you can search with your eyes from outside my car unless you have a warrant. they didnt appreciate the snark (even said so) but didnt call in for backup or try to get a warrant.

If you give a cop attitude, then you just make them give us attitude back. Don't do it. Not cool.

After they found the rocks on him I'm don't believe they need his permission anymore having probable cause at that point. Someone please correct me on that if they have better information.

Am I missing something? Where does it say he gave consent? Or are you just making a general statement?

Even if he didn't give consent, officers can still conduct a search if there is probable cause.

That's correct....if they find something illegal on your person, that gives them just cause to search your vehicle. All they have to say is " I smell marijuana on your breath" , and that's reason enough....for them anyways. Don't matter if you have never smoked marijuana in your life and they are making it up....all they need is a reason.

What were you pulled over for? Just curious because what if they asked to search based on what you were pulled over for? And what part of town was it in?

I'm more concerned about the drugs in our city than whether or not the guy gave consent. Like why is it that every time police are involved in a thread in this forum that it leads to arguments about police and entitlement? Like it's there job. Goodness.
