Am planning on taking my bride to the River Walk this Sunday evening to celebrate our 39th year of wedded bliss. Would like some ideas on where to take her for some good food and ambiance. We like Tex-mex, sea food and Italian. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

For the most part, the food on the Riverwalk is seriously lacking. If you want stay very nearby you could look into something like Bohanan's off Houston or Luke.

Or you could just go RIGHT down the road to a place like Feast or Foccacia in Southtown. Only a couple minute drive then you can head back to the river. It's honestly close enough to walk. Maybe a nice 10-15 minute, safe, walk.

If you want to stay in Southtown you could hang at The Friendly Spot, or head back to the river and go to The Esquire Bar.

There's also the Pearl Brewery with a TON of fabulous dining options like Arcade Midtown, Cured, etc

Bella on the River has very nice food - I found it to be a bit close inside, but the food was excellent, with excellent service.

For a little more casual, I like Iron Cactus - if you sit outside. Inside, it's fairly ordinary (but I do like their food).

Acenar has a nice patio also.

Gwendolyn is my favorite special occasion restaurant in town. Very unique, and off the beaten path of subpar Riverwalk restaurants. Also, for Tex-Mex try Acenar. Other options on the Riverwalk and local include Boudro's, Biga and Ostra. Near downtown options include Arcade Midtown Kitchen, il Sogno, Bliss and Feast. Also, Bohanan's is a great steakhouse with seafood also on the menu.

Don't come downtown for La Foccacia. It's barely better than Olive Garden. If you do venture off into Southtown, try Feast, Monterey, Hot Joy, Azuca, or Bliss.

I'd also try any of those mentioned at the Pearl, then you can walk along the river.

Well it is not technically on the Riverwalk, but La Glorias at the Pearl might be a good choice for you. The actual food on the Riverwalk is, on the whole, disappointing.

Welp, I still love Boudro's. I guess I'm in the minority here, but I think it's delicious!

Me and the Mrs. have, at times, played "tourist" on the riverwalk. We stroll the river, stopping when it looks good, and have an appetizer and a drink. We go from place to place and try to very the ethnic origination of the food. When we are tired, we escape to our hotel room we had set at a downtown hotel.
