A few stations have attempted to compete with 98.5, so they must know there is a market out there. The problem is that they haven't executed the format properly. Wild 105.7 tried to be more pop than 98.5 The Beat. We already have 94.1 for a mix of rhythmic and Top 40 pop.

Wild 105.7 was on a low power signal with no advertising dollars. This is completely different from the last few competitors.

Hot 104.5 is still tweaking it's format but definitely not Urban nor 100% Hip Hop. I've heard Taio Cruz, Far East Movement and Justin Timberlake on 104.5.

The station is not claiming to be 100% hip hop. The station also plays r&b. I don't know why the focus is on hip hop when hip hop/r&b combination stations are more common. Justin Timberlake is not a stranger to the r&b charts. Far East Movement is a hip hop group that has some EDM elements in their music, but that's true of at least half of today's hip hop. Taio Cruz is just annoying.

I think they play more throwback stuff over newer/latest stuff but maybe it's just me.

I never said they were claiming, but various media reports are saying it's Urban.

They always use "urban" as a catchall term for hip hop, r&b, and everything like them.

Guess Clear Channel is changing their market strategy once again using both 96.1 and 104.5 to take on 98.5 Should be interesting I don't see them winning over many listeners with their constant format changes. Its going to come down to the final playlist when their "10,000" commercial free song fest is over

Didn't the same thing happen in Houston just recently?? Their 93.7 was a long time classic rock station and they flipped it to hip hop and r&b. Except I think that one is actually Urban.

When they say "throwback" I hope they use Bradshaw's arm to throw it back and not just into the mid to late 2000s. Sometimes the beat plays a "throwback" and it's Nelly's Must be the Money! give me a break!
