But like always, we'll see if this lasts. Power 106.7 flipped to hip hop yrs back and folded after a yr I think.
Power 106.7 was awful because it had a very limited playlist.

In fact, The Beat first song was, Who Let The Dogs Out by Baha Men.

Anyhow, this will be a real test for The Beat as there is no signal limitations like Hot 92.5 and most recently, Wild 105.7. Power was okay but it became very repetitive within a matter of a few months.
It's not unusual for hip hop and r&b stations to play songs that are dancehall and reggae influenced. The chorus of "Who Let the Dogs Out" is actually booty bass/Miami bass.

All is irrelevant.

What matters is money and the only way to get money is to sell advertisement spots. As a business owner, I wouldn't advertise on this station at all!!! The reason being is because they now have confused the market..
KZEP is known for classic rock, which is appealing to..... for example, Harley riders.... Now, that they dial to 104.5 and hear this,, well they will keep flipping the radio.
Some stupid marketing genius decided to change the format on 104.5 and it is not going to work. It is destined to FAIL!!
Had the GM of 104.5 been more proactive and hired good marketing people and paid them what they were worth, so they could go out there and ad's/sponsors who would pay big $$$ to advertise on the station, none of this would have happened..
Although, on the other hand, radio stations are dying.... Thanks to satellite radio, ipods, streaming, etc....... Same with print... it's almost completely dead as radio.....
The General Manager of KZEP 104.5 has just killed that station!!!!! He should have thought out of the box to sell advertisement, to attract listeners to classic rock, IF he truly wanted to make it work....

But no.... monkey see, monkey do..... Follow the leader........ change formats....
Stupid move.. kiss of death...

The classic rock audience is getting to be 55± years of age. Most advertisers lose interest in attracting that demographic, because its brand preferences are hard to change.

I certainly didn't hear any classic rock on 93.3 this morning. Has it officially moved yet?

Yes. The format has officially move but it is on a low power FM frequency. If you are inside loop 410, then you will likely hear it. Anywhere outside of that, good luck!

X106-7 and the original KZEP had horrible numbers in this market. Not sure if X106-7 will actually benefit from this change but we will see next month when the new numbers come out.

Anyhow, I love Hot 104.5.

x 106.7 was talking about the change just now...and welcoming over former KZEP listeners. I was over near Babcock/410 and did get KZEP on 93.3 but as I got out towards Sea World, it was starting to fade. Not a fan of HOT 104.5 so far.

I was getting 93.3 last night in Stone Oak.

While I usually listen to Sirius, my favorite local stations are KZEP and 89.1 NPR.
