That sort of thinking is what got this city an AT&T Center built in a location that is convenient only to people who cannot afford tickets to go there. Hopefully no one in town is holding their breath waiting for the great entertainment district with shops and restaurants that was supposed to form around that place.

While I have no problem with making the university accessible to those whose families don't traditionally attend universities, there are acres of vacant land adjacent to 410 and 1604 that would have made a fine southside location with a much easier commute for the folks in other parts of town who will attend and work there. It's just plain silly that this city's next major university campus is being built in a location that's nearly as inconvenient as the AT&T Center.

Convenient for whom? Those who own transportation and could drive themselves to any given location? I'm sure there are quite a few folks who would attend, if the location were convenient for them to take public transportation. Have you ever ridden the bus from one end of the city to the other? This seems to be a case of the "haves" wanting more.

Last time I checked, buses use 410 and 1604. The buses will go to the campus, no matter where it is built.

Before you play the haves vs. have-nots card, keep in mind that it'll be mostly the "haves" who work there. Attracting quality faculty and administrators will be much easier if the campus is built in a location which is easy to get to and poised to become vibrant due to logical development springing up around the perimeter of the campus. The location that was selected is likely to become an island that isn't close to where anyone lives for a long time.

There are two other people on this forum that think they are ghetto gangsters and go around spelling things in "thug" code not sure if that was another attempt or not. At least spellcheck put a REAL word in for me.

I wouldn't rely on spellcheck, either, for this particular reason. However, that is your prerogative.

I'm leaving work, but will respond to this later.

With respect to the bus routes, I was looking at it from the perspective of having this school built on the northside, taking into consideration how long it would take to get from the southside to the northside. So why make it inconvenient for those who would have to rely on public transportation?

So I guess the "have nots" don't count for much, since according to you, they won't contribute much. Nice! I don't understand what you mean by "...isn't close to where anyone lives for a long time." Last time I went home, there were plenty of people living in the area.

Hmmm...where is all the howling when a new homeless shelter, section 8 housing or drug rehab facility is being considered?

Maybe they should put one out on IH10 where the "Booby Rocks" thing was supposed to be.

On an off topic side note. As long as the city thinks it's such a great idea to collect $5 cover charges at Topless Bars to pay for sex crimes and stuff I wonder if they would consider a $5 cover charge to all businesses located over the aquifer recharge zone to pay for potential water problems.

In addition to continuing education, it will provide many jobs - not just high end faculty positions, but technical, administrative, support, janitorial.

It's an excellent opportunity to balance out the city and provide opportunity to the southside. Despite what some may think, there's a large population on the southside and not everyone is desperate to move North of 1604.
