Was wondering if anyone has recommendations regarding job fairs in SA. I am looking at a relocation from Austin to SA, looking for something in collections, telecommunications, non-profit, or insurance (I have professional experience in all of these areas, mostly in customer service role).

I see there are several job fairs coming up in the SA from a google search, so it would be great to find out what the difference in quality between them!

Thanks in advance!

Go directly to the companies you are interested in. The only reason there are job fairs in San Antonio is for recruiters to have an excuse to get out of the office. In addition, many will say "Fill out the application online and we'll be in touch."

I agree. Job fairs are usually a waste of time.

I just did the SA Express job fair. It was pretty good as far as turnout and candidates went. I will say that you're best off finding out which businesses are going to be going to which job fair and letting that guide your decision. Honestly, unless you're totally crunched for time I'd go to all of them that I could -- it never hurts. Bring plenty of resumes.

We actually have open positions and finding people who have skills who are actively reaching out for these positions is a challenge because not everyone reads craigslist, or monster, or indeed, or the paper. Many people go to job fairs who are qualified and are looking for new opportunities, etc.

Other candidates... well yes you can fill out the application online.

Note that most places will ask you to fill out an online application even if you "go directly to the companies". At a job fair you get to get in front of either a recruiter, manager, or HR. That's a step ahead of Joe Schmoe who walked to up to the receptionist in their lobby. If I meet you and I think highly of you I'm going to give your information to the person who can set up an interview with you.

'Pounding the pavement' so to speak is a bit antiquated.

Thanks, everyone! Really appreciate your honest feedback! I have had good experiences with both, job fairs and applying directly with the company. Was curious about the SA job market, I see there are several job fairs coming up, and also see that job growth is good, with only 5% unemployment. It is good to research employers, just starting to update my resume. I will see if I can find out which companies are attending the job fairs, that will also give me a good idea about which employers in SA are hiring, as well.
