I used to like Amy's but it's looking a little run down and I would think with all the business they get they would make it look a little less dirty. I like El Chapperall in Helotes but I've only been there for breakfast. There is also this other little joint I like that's real little. I can't remember the name but it's off of Culebra on the NW side. It only has like 6 tables and it's pretty good.

Another good one (hole in the wall) is Elizabeth's Mexican Food at Timberhill and Grissom.

These places are nothing fancy, at all, hence, hole-in-the-wall. But for good, satisfying, and ridiculously inexpensive Tex-Mex, they can't be beat. I don't find Amy's dirty, so much as old and needing some work done. But it's also part of their charm, in my opinion. There are so many regulars there, and I think it's a case of "can't see the forest for the trees." It's the same sets of eyes day in, day out, and they just get used to it. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

La Cazadora on West, right after Basse ( north) is the best food in the whole world! We go there all the time and they will make something special for you if you ask. The family who owns it are always there and keep it homey.
Tia's on McCullough at Oblate is really good, too, though they close at 2.

Wow, must have been on an off day because I don't even care for refried beans that much and I found theirs light, delicately spiced and delicious.

Default Tex-Mex Restaurants NEAR Kirby?

I was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in the Late 70’s & 80s.
I was in the Texas Army Nation Guard, 149 MP Company in 1984/5.

There was smallish (less than 6 table) Tex-Mex restaurant near the intersection of Seguin and Binz-Engleman Roads just at the edge of Kirby.

I used to stop there just about every time that I went out to Martindale Army Airfield for breakfast tacos. We also went there for lunch often,

Tired to find it on google using the map but can't tell what all is there now. Ther appears to be a Citgo on the corner and a newer structure is three buildings south of the intersection.

I think that this place was between these two locations. Any Ideas? Is it still there?
Thanks
