So a neighbor just stopped me to let me know that the current construction project going on on the east side of 281 near Sendero Ridge (I think is the neighborhood name) is for low income housing. I'm trying to find some info on this, but can anyone confirm that? It's just north of Marshall Rd at 281 and Mountain Lodge.

Pretty sure that area was zoned as commercial land, and I have a feeling the folks in that neighborhood literally right next to this construction will be pretty upset. I'm not too happy since it's going up right across the highway, but want to confirm before I get my feathers ruffled.

A lot of apartment complexes will get HUD money to offer "affordable living" apartments for the first few years after they open. It might mean instead of paying $1300 for an apartment, you have to qualify by income (maybe less than 40k/year for family of 4) and pay $900 a month. It won't be all the apartments in a complex, just a certain percentage which are generally the less-than-desirable ones, like the top floor of a building that only has stairs.

Another one of these threads. You'll be alright and so will your neighbors.

P.S.

Can we expect false claims, misunderstanding and incorrect beliefs in this thread as well.

Let's get this one out of the way.

HUD money doesn't mean section 8.

You are very correct! Which is why I'm trying to find out more information.

And like it or not, depending on the type of housing, it can adversely affect home values and safety. Rather than trying to paint me as intolerant and heartless, why don't you try and be helpful like some of the other posters that have responded?

Thanks Hedgehog. I had forgotten about that initially. My neighbor is pretty nosy and likes to overreact to issues, made up or otherwise.

The layout is below. These will be nice looking apartments, but I'm glad I don't live in a $2M Sendero Ranch home right there. These houses are a lot nicer than those across the street in Summerglen.

The toll roads can't get here soon enough with more concentrated living places being thrown up within a five mile radius of here.

Default Encore 281 luxury apartments

I ran across this post and wanted to clarify some information about the new apartments off of 281 near mountain lodge and Sendero Ranch.

These brand new apartment homes do not participate in any affordable housing programs.
The HUD sign that was displayed was to denote the financing for the community.

This brand new apartment community called Encore 281.

It is a luxury community with amazing features and amenities.
