Snow in San Antonio??? (military, golf course, students)

It was 13.5 inches of snow in January 1985. About a week before that it snowed a little bit, less than an inch. Nothing was closed down, but it was enough for us to make a tiny snowman, about six inches high.

It snowed a little bit in 1982 on a weekday around noon. I was in high school and everyone was going crazy at lunch. The teachers had to drag us to class--everyone was playing in the snow.

It snowed a few inches in 1973--enough to shut everything down for a day or two. I remember the schools closed early the day it started snowing.

I should have looked this up before my earlier post, but in case anyone is interested, I found this in a book of weather data for San Antonio:

The greatest daily snowfalls in the last 40-45 years:
13.2 inches on 1-12-85
2.4 inches on 1-2-85
2.0 inches on 2-8-73
3.1 inches on 2-22-66
2.0 inches on 2-21-64

The closest San Antonio has come to the 1985 snowfall was in 1949 with 4.7 inches. The 13.5 inches of snow was recorded over the two days of Jan 12 and Jan 13 of 1985. I wasn't remembering the earlier Jan 1985 snow correctly--it was 2.4 inches on 1-2-85.

The 1982 snowfall didn't make the top 13. It was only .5 inches and took place on Jan 13.

We had 1.3 inches on Jan 21, 1987. I don't remember this, but I was at UT then, so it must not have snowed in Austin. Does anyone remember that snowfall?

It was certainly cold but no snow, when I went there Jan 2008. In Jan in Australia it is sooo hot so it was a nice change.
I loved San Antonio. I had the greatest time at Howl at the moon and the Cowboys place where they had the (real) bull riding. Hopefully I will be back in December for a few days. I would love to see the christmas lights.
Loved the factory outlets as well. You guys are so lucky having that at your door step.
I would also like to do the river thing on the tyres as well.

Tubing! Hmmm...you'll have to go during our summer months then...December would definitely be too cold!

January 1972. UT opened two weeks late. The whole place shut down. I35 was empty except for 18 wheelers dropping icebergs off their mudflaps.
I walked to campus in the snow from 30th and Speedway, through the Presbyterian Seminary housing and across the footbridge on Waller Creek (iced). Real snow. Our cocker puppy ran around with her nose to the ground like a snow plow. Every time she looked up, there be a little pile of snow on her nose. God bless heavy wool.

In 1985, my folks had something like 12" of snow on the roof. I couldn't believe the pictures. Austin got nothing out of that storm.

we got a dusting of snow on Valentine's Day 2004 - I woke up early just to see if it really happened, and it did. But melted really quickly.

it flurried last year or the year before, and melted before it hit the ground.

just once i'd love an inch or two

Ithas only snowed once in my life time here in San Antonio and that was 1985. We got 14 inches. Never again since. Those little occasional patches reported really don't count.
