alamo ranch shopping center
well I have not been on here in a while, But it looks like the Alamo Ranch shopping center right outside of 1604 and culebra will soon be done, and I heard such a big fuss about it that it was going to be the new stone oak etc. But for it being such a big development it does not look nice what so ever. it could be because it is not even half way done, but the signs they have up do not compare to the Rim or even the shopping Center off Bandera. What do you guys think? am I being a little to picky..hehe

I agree
My wife and I think the same way. We were hoping to see something more like the RIM. At least there will be an Olive Garden.
I was tired of driving to the RIM and Bandera. It is nice to have the shops in the area

Yeah I am really glad for the signs and landscaping at the RIM. It is definitely first class. BTW that is the greenest grass I have ever seen.

I know that Alamo Ranch was supposed to be the new "Stone Oak". Although, that area of town is overall just a "ritzy" area. I think that the AR Shopping center is just going to be another shopping center, just like the one off Bandera/1604. It will be nice and have everything you want/need. It will not be as high class as expected though!

As I stated in another thread, we were a bit disappointed at the looks of the shopping center. However, the cost of gas these days outweighs the appearance factor. Sacrificing looks for convenience is not always a bad thing...

The sales people used the "Stone Oak" sales pitch on us when we first checked out AR back in 06. I knew it was not going to be the case because of much of the riff-raff in the area.
AR Marketplace is okay, but no wow-factor.

I live here too. I didn't imply everyone. But you don't have to drive too far to see what I'm talking about. YMMV.

Riff-raff is everywhere. Get used to it. No amount of money or supposed 'class' can save you from it... Tact is, unfortunately, not usually synonymous with money.
As for this new shopping development: To me, it's telltale when people say 'at least it has an Olive Garden.' Case closed. It's definitely no La Cantera and probably just a step up from the current Rim project.

ha ha, ok. I was wondering there for a minute.. and yeah, there definitely is some less than desirable areas, but that's almost unavoidable no matter where you are.

Some people actually like Olive Garden; I know my daughter loves it. I think the vast majority of us were hoping for a shopping center that offered a lot of the stores we shop at and that's what we're going to get. The Shops at La Cantera are nice for some, but a silly waste of $ for others. I remember going into one of the snooty stores in San Diego once and the hourly employees were looking down at me because I was dressed comfortably. I'm fairly certain I made quite a bit more than they did and yet they made me feel unwelcomed. Screw them and screw that as far as I'm concerned. Besides, the vast majority of my shopping is done online now.
