Been working in West Texas on project hires but would like to get into the eagle ford shale area as it is closer to home and not 7 to 8 hours away as my last project. Experienced longtime heavy equipment operator trying to find something in that area and have tried craigslist and web without much luck it seems you have to know someone down there to get hooked up....any suggestions ?

Default Holt,

Drive to Holt ....the Caterpillar Dealer here in San Antonio ,out Loop 13 and walk into the showroom and let them know what you do for a living ;can do and that you know - they probably know- who is buying and renting equipment and who is doing the hiring, whom- has a lot of the oilfield work ?
Call the Caterpilllar rental office there or talk to the parts dept. or the mechanics there. Cat Mechanics likely will know where a lot of machinery is located and even some names maybe even numbers.
Call Brown and Root, headquartered in Houston. Ask.
Perhaps even Haliburton might be able to point you in the right direction. Try Online telephone directories for the little south Texas towns like- Floresville, Poteet, Karnes City etc. You can see oil rigs all over the countryside down there visible, directly from the roads. Nearly, literally, every ten miles or so. Stop and ask them.
I was in Floresville out Highway 181 for a drive earlier this year and there was work all over down there. They were even re-paving that Highway,181 South when I was there last February, as we approached FLoresville. It was nuts, really, traffic jams, Motel construction going on, that sort of thing.
Call the larger excavating contractors here in San Antonio, H B Zachry, Olmos Equipment, V K Knowlton
Paving Contractors, Dean Word etc. they might know some companies or even may be out there themselves doing oilfield roadwork.
Best of Luck to you. Also I remember there are a couple of posters here at the Forum that know a lot of people in the oilfield business and who is hiring people south of town. I can't remember whom they were off hand perhaps they will soon look at your post.

Try Messaging San Antonio City Data Forum Member- "Slowpoke". I can remember Slowpoke offering a lot of feedback and actually -good information- input- on Eagle Ford Field here, a few months ago.
