Default Riverwalk Christmas Lights

This is our first holiday season to live in San Antonio and I've heard about the beautiful Christmas lights that go up along the Riverwalk. My in laws would like to come in from Houston to see the lights - when do they usually go up?

TIA

They are turned on the day after Thanksgiving. There's a big celebration in front of the Alamo where the christmas tree is and at 7 pm they turn the switch which lights up the tree and the lights on the riverwalk.

Also, you should check out the city of Windcrest, they're nationally known for their community wide christmas lights. Almost all the homes are decarated for christmas. It's a big draw.

Also, the UIW lights along Broadway are very nice as well as the lights on Broadway through Alamo Heights.

Thumbs up When the Christmas Light show ends

I just returned home from my first visit to the San Antonio Riverwalk. The Christmas lights were on for three of the nights we were there. The last night the lights were on was January 9. Since this was my first visit, I had only seen the Riverwalk with the Christmas lights. It looked so festive and I really missed the lights the night when they no longer turned them on. I am glad that the light show lasted a couple of weeks after Christmas. My husband and I loved our visit to the Riverwalk and would like to return for another visit. (We live in Mississippi).

The Christmas tree in front of the Alamo must have been taken down Jan. 9, because it was still up on Jan. 8. Then we went by the Alamo again on Jan. 10, and the tree was gone.

So you were here during the time the Riverwalk was drained? That had to be a bummer. Hope you had a great time and enjoy your next visit.
