County residents can look forward to lower tax rates and, of course, the following rising evaluations that always come after a feel good lowering of the tax rate.

Sounds great. Hope property values rise too...right before I get ready to sell.

That's what I was thinking. Very few people, if anyone, will see their taxed amount go down.

But it is good in the long run that property values are increasing.

I don't mean to derail the conversation but I do have a question. This may be a cultural thing, being a transplant and all but where I come from county judges are rarely, if ever, asked for their opinion by the media on non-legal/judicial topics. How/why does Judge Wolff keep chiming in on everything from the development of Mission Reach to streetcars to budgets? Not asking for opinions of the man, I just find it curious that a Judge holds so much sway over so much outside of the courtroom.

In Texas, the "county judge" is the top elected official in county government. S/he doesn't preside over a court of law, s/he presides over a court of commissioners, who each represent districts in that county.

It's the equivalent of a city mayor, but at the county level.

Thank you. That is different - and clears up a lot. For 2 years I've been been asking myself what was up with him.
