I'm moving to San Antonio from El Paso, TX.
I was looking to purchase a home in the southwest area (lago Vista subdivision). Can anyone tell me a little about the area. I have children of my own and get a little concerned with comments that emphasize the crime rate. Thank you!

Those are valid concerns and have not changed recently. Why that area? Do you work in that area? Have family in the area?

No I don't have any family there. I will be moving there in the next few months to San Antonio and saw a beautiful home in that area for a great price

It probably is a great price due to the issues that you mentioned. But that's my opinion. I myself would look a bit further north toward the 78251, 78250 area if you want to be near the southwestside area. There are several people that live in those areas that may have more input than me since I've never lived in the area.

I grew up on that side of town. It's predominantly hispanic. that's a newer subdivision but most of the area is made up of older homes. Mainly working class and lower income. Schools are not great. Look up South San ISD. It is close to shopping. You have HEB, Target, Walmart, Southpark Mall, Santikos Mayan Theater, and Restaurants along SW Military right there. Another plus is proximity to Palo Alto College and Texas A&M San Antonio University. As far as crime goes, we lived closer to Palo Alto, but in the 25 years I lived there, we never had a home break in. We did however have one car stolen from our driveway, and my truck was broken into parked in front of our house. Hope this helps.
