This is the abandoned Villaje del Rio development on Broadway near Jones Street. Ed Cross bought the development and as you can see gave it a new design and a new name. It's a mixed-use development that'll have retail, office and residential units. There will also be a Hippo's grocery store.

Thanks to Andres for including these images on his River North site.

I'm assuming this is the Geis property that was foreclosed on? Does this rendering mean that the existing structure is NOT going to be torn down and rebuilt? The existing buildings are HORRIBLE, providing no streetscape, no design sensibility, nothing that helps foster walkability or community. The drawings seem to indicate that there will be very little streetscaping in the new project. Can OP comment on this or any other aspects of the project?

I'm just glad something is being done with that place. What an eyesore coming down 281 but at least it will help ease the pain with all that other useless metal around there.

is inside the little downtown loop (35/10/37) or outside of it?

It's just inside the "inner" inner loop - almost directly under/inside the junction of 35 & 281. When you drive on 281 south into downtown, the rusty roof skeleton you see as you round the curve past DPT Laboratories is what will now be the Broadway Lofts. If they ever get out of court, that is.

This article ran today in the Express-News MySA.com: Business (http://www.mysanantonio.com/business/stories/MYSA041608.01D.1221Broadway.2f621f4.html - broken link)...finally moving forward on demolishing the horribly ugly street-frontage building. Although a previous post shows a rendering from Lake/Flato, it appears that a different architectural firm is actually leading this project. It will be interesting to see what final form takes shape... this development and George Mauze's 1800 Broadway development will completely transform Broadway and surrounding neighborhoods between Jones and Brackenridge Park.

It's a joint project between firms.
