Which to Pick Austin or San Antonio
We are considering a move to San Antonio or Austin from Orange county CA. I will buying 2 homes and want an area where i could find 2 homes on acreage. Where should i be looking? If this is not possible where can I find homes around 200 with approx 1/2 acre each. Planning on calling a realtor in the next few weeks but want to know where to start.
Thanks for your help

Try looking in the La Vernia or Boerne area.

Austin. Everything is better there, including the weather.

Austin is extremely overrated and over priced. The neighborhoods, culture and overall things to do are better in San Antonio. The city is twice the size of Austin and more friendlier

I'd have to assume Merovee said that with tongue planted in cheek.

To the OP, try checking out La Vernia, St. Hedwig, Castroville or Floresville.

I think to respond to the question.. more data is needed such as, what kind of job are you looking for? if your not intending to work (retirement) then that makes things different. Do you plan on having animals (horses and such) I mean any kind of data to help handle that question...

If you are moving from California then I would suggest that Austin would be more to your taste. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Austin has alot of culture, ie. art, music, theater, etc. It is very green with lots of pretty lakes/rivers within the city with great hiking and cycling trails. It is more liberal and home of UT Austin. It has alot of unique shopping, great restaurants and lively nightlife. SA is a very laid back and conservative town. The best thing about SA is the weather and the low cost of living. Austin is more expensive. Roundrock outside of Austin is a popular area.

West Austin, where the Hill Country begins in that area, has truly stunning landscapes compared to San Antonio. Though all of the Hill Country, including the far north side of SA where the hills start to rise there, scores high when it comes to aesthetics. If you want beautiful land nearby move somewhere near or in the Austin Greenbelts.
