I was really little when Po Folks was open. We used to call it poor peoples because we couldnt say it the other way. "Mom, Dad, when are we going to Poor Peoples!!"

The Pizza Hut used to be located further south on Fredericksburg across the street from the strip mall where China Harbor and Peter Piper Pizza are. Speaking of that location, wasn't there a Sears of JCPenney in there. I remember going there when I was young to get my Cub/Boy Scout stuff.

I also vaguely recall a Po Folks location on Babcock Rd. but it was a very small place and there is a place called Educare Child Care there now. The location is here. I could be wrong about this but I remember getting some really good food there, mainly sandwiches and I could swear it was called Po Folks. Actually, memories of pizza are coming to me about that place. If it wasn't Po Folks, can someone tell me what else it could be?

Since I'm getting close to the Woodlawn Area, does anyone remember the Time Tunnels?
That may be the location I remember.

Okay. Gotcha.

I agree on the location of the one on Fredericksburg. I knew it was somewhere near the Pizza Hut but didn't realize the Hut had replaced it. That was the first time I ever ate at one (live on the southeast side). Then they opened the one at Fair/Goliad. Good eats had come to the southeast side! Had some really great times there with my Dad and our daughter, his "wee one". She loved to go there with Grandpa. Wonderful memories.

I think it was country singer Jim Ed Brown who started Po Folks. They were nice places.

Next time you go to Destin, Florida on vacation, hop on the midbay bridge to Niceville. There's a Po Folks there. My favorite menu item was the fried green tomatos. I miss that place. We ate there every Sunday for 3 years. It's still there, serving up the heapin' helpin' vittles for all to enjoy.
