Just found out today that the Sportsman's Warehouse (151/410) is closing on 31Jan.
A co-worker was a first-hand witness to super discounts and "everything must go" signs.

What does this mean for the other big boxes in that plaza?

It probably just means they couldn't compete with Academy. Maybe Academy will move in there?

Personally I avoid that shopping center just for the traffic in/out concerns.

That shopping center definitely has some traffic flow issues, but at least it's a perfect match for the exact same traffic flow issues of 151 in that area. The engineers were definitely on some premium crack that day..
as far as the OP, I was surprised that particular store lasted that long. I'm fairly certain most of the other stores and restaurants won't follow suit. That's a seriously popular and busy shopping center.

Wasn't there a rumor that Gander Mountain was moving into the abandoned WalMart just across 151? With Dick's Sporting Goods coming to Alamo Ranch, Academy and the threat of Gander Mountain across the street, maybe it was too much for Sportsman's to take! That and the big gun heist at that store earlier in 2007...

Still, thatís too bad as I bought several handguns from that Sportsmanís Warehouse location. I wonder if the one at 1604/281 is going to suffer a similar fate?

Anyway, I gotta go by there on my way home to see if I can also "witness" some "super discounts"...

Cheers! M2

Some people I work with are interested in guns. Are they discounted now?

I was just down in SA over the holidays and I noticed the cleared piece of land just to the north of Academy off Military West and 410...I tried to read the sign but all it said was something about a sports store...the colors of the sign reminded me of Academy so I was thinking maybe that will be an expansion of Academy? Does anyone know if they're moving next door or just adding on to their building? It does seem like a small outlet compared to the newer one I drove by off NW Military and 1604. Hopefully the newest location between Military and Potranco off 1604 will be a larger store.

Not sure about Gander Mountain...that's a new one for me. But I liked SW much more than Academy. Guess it depends on your preference...
Just in there today and regardless of how stuff is marked - everything is on sale by some means. But it's "as is - all sales final" so buyer beware!

As for the traffic flow - I tend to stick to the back entrance by the post office - behind Lowes. Or Ingram at the 151 access road. It's not too bad that way. I NEVER attempt to get onto 151 or 410 from that parking lot! That's just nutty.

I agree......attempting to get on the access road on 410 is nutty. I get in and out from the "little" road off Ingram or from behind Lowe's and SW, depending on which direction I'm going to next.

We were there last night, some items are 30% off for now. My DH bought a $149.00 scope for $79.00. He was smiling all the way out to the vehicle. Since I bought him a new rifle for xmas, it was like watching him on xmas morning all over again. I got a kick out of it. Not sure about the prices on their guns though. We spoke to our regular guy who normally works the knifes counter and he mentioned that the SW on 1604 and 281 was staying open.

I stopped by Thursday afternoon, and the handgun section is pretty much wiped out but there was still a good selection of rifles and shotguns. However, despite what the signs seem to indicate, not everything is on sale. I bought some 'gun socks' for a few of my rifles and they rung up at full price. I thought everything was on sale, but apparantly not. I understand the sale will get better as we get closer to 21 Dec, but at the rate people are picking the place over, there may not be much left.

By the way, I talked with a guy working there who said the store never made it out of the red in the two years it was open. As you may know, one of the Dallas stores is also closing. It was just a corporate decision to cut their losses and close the store. With Bass Pro and Academy giving them strong competition, and Dick's opening in July, I guess it was just too much. I am sorry to see them go, as I always liked that store...

Cheers! M2
