We are going to travel to San Antonio to look at areas and have heard the riverwalk is a great place to stay? Does anyone know of any inexpensive hotels in this area on the river where we can stay about 5 nights? Also what is the favorite choice for Mexican Food

If you are looking for inexpensive, I'm not sure you will find that on the River Walk. Though, there is a Holiday Inn and a La Quinta and a few other more moderately priced hotels near the River Walk.

Rack rates for most hotels on the Riverwalk are typically ridiculous... But many of these hotels do allot part of their inventory to Priceline, so bidding through it might be an option for you. (If you have never used Priceline for hotels, you could check out the Better Bidding and Bidding for Travel sites for pointers, "winning" bids, etc.) When we visited San Antonio a few times to check out the job market and look for houses prior to moving back here, we got some good deals through Priceline. (Hyatt for around $49 was one of them.)

on the riverwalk you cant really get good mexican. Depending on how long your gonna be here. I would one hundred percent go to Garcias. Its not all fancy or done up but it has the absolute best. Its about a half mile outside of down town fredicksburg. Its very safe in a quiet neigborhood. Its not upscale but many lawyers (including me), and professors go there amongst quite a bit of others. its really gained in popularity lately so you may wait a bit as the place is tiny.

Otherwise go to MiTierra. Garcias is a daytime place they close at

Garcias is about a half mile outside of downtown and closes at 2pm I highly recommend it. Its a small place which is not fancy at all but the food is to die for. Many lawyers(including me), professors go there as well as many others.

dinner go to mitierra or pico de gallo. unfortunately the food on the river is not that great. margaritas or so so but hey you get to see the river so..

I went to Garcia's the other day and was disappointed with the tacos they served, the carne guisada was watered down with little meat. I had heard many good things about the place but was not impressed.

Maybe i picked the wrong day to go.

You might want to check out this post:

Discount coupons for goodies in SA!

The discounts might be out of date and I'm not sure if any of the places are down on the Riverwalk.

Good luck.

The difference between hotel rates on the Riverwalk and in other parts of town is significant enough that you could rent a car and park it all day downtown with the savings. Since cost is important to you, I'd recommend getting the least expensive room you can find online in any part of town and driving downtown.

Default Mexican food places

Fair warning, Mexican food here in not like SoCal. (I'm sure you've already heard that, tho.) There's a place that some members on here found that is much closer to Baja Mex, it's called Roberto's and it's near Blanco/Bitters (is that right Michelle & Brennnan?). Will find out if you're interested in visiting there. Otherwise, there's lots of good TexMex, just depends on if you'd like hole-in-the-wall or more "fine dining" atmosphere. I really like Aldaco's! It's in Sunset Station just outside of downtown. San Antonio's mexican food restaurant at Sunset Station-near River Walk, the Alamo and Alamodome And Azuca on South Alamo is fabulous as well! Food & Beverage Innovations Restaurant Group

Hope you have a great trip!
