Default Need info. on Texas

I am looking at moving outside of San Antonio around Bandera - Kerrville or beyond. I have a few general questions!
I hear a lot about roaches and mosquitoes in Texas -- can someone give me a realistic idea of how bad the problem really is around the area I just mentioned.
Also I know that there are many good trails to ride/camp in an area near Bandera but I don't know the name of the place and I wonder if there are horses to rent there. I am not interested in guest ranches although I know they are plentiful.
Last few questions for today is How crowded is this area and what is the best way to research housing and the job market in this area? I understand the Bandera area gets lots of people on the weekends -- true?? From my research, I understand there are many ranches that are broken up into small acreage that make their own little area with services such as horse stalls, swimming pools etc. -- can anyone better explain that concept to me. I am from the midwest and not sure I understand the concept. Are there trail clubs to join?

Thanks for your help!

I grew up north of San Antonio and did a lot of hunting in the Bandera area. Compared to the midwest, those areas are not bad for mosquitos. It is pretty dry in those parts and unless you are next to some stagnant water it really isn't bad at all. Roaches? Well there are some, but I wouldn't say there are more than anywhere else. I never thought they were a problem. Some places have scorpions, but you get used to watching out for them.

There is great camping and kayaking on the Medina and Guadalupe rivers. I have been riding in Bandera but I don't know enough to give advice about it. Texas does not have a lot of public land for recreation. The only places I know of would be designated as a state park or state natural area which you should be able to find online. These dude ranches as they call them are small outfits that rent horses by the hour and you can go ride around their pasture. Hope that helps.
