Hi all! Quick question. Where is a good place to find some good siopao? I have looked at Tim's, a market off of 90 (by Lackland), and one off of Evers and none of them had them (well Tim's had the Chinese version but not the same!). I filled up when I was back home in Maryland but would love to find some good ones here too! TIA!

Funny, but when my wife started the store on Hwy 90 she would bring siopao back from Houston to sell in the store. You could always make your own. Here are some web pages with siopao recipes:

Still have the store? Not sure if it's the same one I stopped into. All I remember is "no we don't have any" . I'll have to try and see if I can make some. So much work though LOL. I have yet to try to make my mom's egg rolls for goodness sake (Thai), but I better learn soon!!! She just makes the best though!

No, my wife sold it to the current owner many years ago. Does Lily's Bakery carry them?

I've never heard of them, but just looked them up so I'll check it out! I see they serve lots of Filipino homecooking so we'll just need to take a trip over there! Thanks!!!

Filipino stores and restaurants are generally in 2 clusters in the San Antonio area: Northeast side around Randolph AFB, and Northwest side.
You will find the following near Randolph AFB, on or near Pat Booker Rd:
- Chockdee (a Filipino store on Lindbergh a blocks east of Pat Booker and 2 blocks outside the Randolph AFB main gate, next to Shell)
- Tabares (another Filipino store, in the Randolph Plaza shopping center)
- Dolce Manila (a Filipino bakery across Pat Booker from Randolph Plaza)
- Mekeni (a Filipino buffet at the intersection of Pat Booker and Kitty Hawk, next to Taco Cabana)
The following are all on the Northwest side
- Lily's (a Filipino restaurant and store, on the northbound Loop 410 access road between 90 and Marbach)
- Sari-Sari (another Filipino restaurant and store, on Wurzbach just east of Bandera, across from Ancira Chevrolet)
- Orient Spice (a Filipino restaurant on Bandera Rd inside the Loop, near where it meets up with Culebra east of St. Mary's University)
- Filipino Express (a Filipino restaurant in the shopping center off the westbound Loop 410 access road between Callaghan and Evers, next to Conn's and behind Chili's)
Hope this helps!
You should also visit Santo Nino Catholic Church (on Rigsby/US Hwy 87 east of Loop 410) if you want to meet other Filipinos and experience some of the culture. The noon Mass on Sundays features songs sung in Tagalog. The annual Fiesta is held in May while the San Lorenzo Ruiz Fall Festival is in September. I play the piano for the adult/traditional choir, which sings at the noon Mass.

Thank you! I'm on the NW side so I'll check those out first (well Sari Sari I've been to before and they didn't have them at the time). Only get to the NE side on rare occasion LOL. Thank you for telling me about the church. I'm half Thai though -- although a lot of people think I'm Filipina. I had a cashier the other day ask me. Some think my mom is too...BUT I've been eating siopao since my dad was stationed at Clark AB and need that fix LOL!
