We drove in to see the Beastie Boys play the Alamodome in '98. I was 18 then. Rancid opened for them. BB tore the dome up. I'm a Rancid fan but they seemed a little underwhelming. But then again, any punk band would have a hard time capturing their "inner punkdom" in such a large venue

Saw Depeche Mode a couple months later. Another great show.

I'm sure I was at Crue - NEVER MISS THEM!!!!!!

Not only were tickets cheaper, they used to be general admission, so it was possible for anyone to get a good spot if you wanted it. I had front row on every general admission show I ever went to, and have a few guitar picks, flyers, and stuff.

Now it's assigned seating almost always. They claim to do it for crowd control, but when considering the business aspect, I find it more reasonable to believe that tiered ticket prices are more profitable than general admission concerts. Some venues and acts in some cities even auction and scalp their own damn tickets to cut out the scalper middleman. It's like "plastic peanut butter jars" scenario where tell you it's for your own good but the real motivation is it's actually cheaper and more profitable for them.
