The trash cans and cars blocking the sidewalk are inconvenient if you're trying to walk your kids to school in the morning, especially if you have other little ones in a stroller. Most people with little kids want to live in a neighborhood with sidewalks so they can use the sidewalks, so I can understand the frustration.

Personally I'd rather see the cars blocking the sidewalks than clogging up the streets, but that's just because I ride my bike in my neighborhood every day and some people can't go around me if there are any cars parked on the street at all along the block, so they stay behind me honking even when there's room for them and a car going the opposite way.
