I used to go to Brake Check but had some bad experiences years ago.

Who do you recommend? Probably need just new pads.

Are any Breke Check locations better than others?

If it's just pads you could probably do it yourself. I did it cost me $6.00 and about 15 minutes of my time. What's the vehicle (year, make & model) and what are the symptoms? Squeaking? Front, back or both? How long (years and/or miles) has it been since the pads have been replaced?

This is one thing it's absolutely worth learning to do yourself. And if you know how to change out the pads, changing the rotor is no big deal either.

The family that owns Brake Check is a friend of ours. I had them put brakes and booster on my Bronco. It was less than 10,000 miles and the brakes were screwed up again. Seems they didn't install the pads right and they were worn to the metal on side of the pad. All I got from them was song and dance. I used a place on Bandera Road which at the time was next to where the wife worked. It's called Bring Your Own Parts. The business is owned by a lady which is a little odd but she runs a pretty tight ship. I also had them replace the O2 sensors on my Supercrew. I had issues with the exhaust leaking after that. Went over there and they immediately put the truck on the rack and I was gone in less than 15 minutes. So they stand behind their work. I've had them do other work like motor mounts and struts to the wifes old car. I can't complain about anything they've done for me. Might give them a call. You can specify what brand parts you want them install or you can buy the parts and just pay labor for the install- yer choice. They are an ASE shop.

My car is a 2011 Honda CRV with 55,000 miles. I dont plan on keeping it much beyond double that mileage so thought around now would be a good time to change the pads.

1. Brake Check - No Comment !!!

2. Bring Your Own Parts - Same As # 1 !!!

3. Find an independent family owned shop in your area that has been in business for a long time.

I would also try Bring Your Own Parts off Bandera, heard good things about them.

Independent family owned shops can be a hit or miss. Defiantly read online reviews before going to one.

I would avoid Brake Check at all costs, don't even let them give you a quote unless you have an hour to waste while they tell you it is too dangerous for them to let you leave.

Thousand Oaks automotive does great work and I've always found them to be extremely honest.

Thousand Oaks has a rep for doing good work but the times I've checked on their prices they were about the same as the dealer. But I will look into it. Thx
