Didnt read all the responses but lackland is a training base for C5 (large cargo planes) and some F16s. Hard to train if you cant fly at night.

The airport says "it might have been" is such a lame excuse. Do they think we are idiots, this is highly monitored highly regulated airspace, nothing comes in and out without the tower knowing about, any other way would be a serious safety issue.

I would like to know why airport officials are lying, they know what these jets were, secondly I would like to know who made the decision to fly these jets directly over my house so low, so fast, and so late at night.
You saw them? At midnight? You had a radar gun to measure their speed? Did you get their tail numbers? How many of them were there? Since you saw them, what type of military fighter jets were they?

My guess is that they were likely a military flight of two plus who stopped over at one of the FBOs at KSAT, gassed up and lit A/B on the way out of town. Likely not enamored with noise abatement departure procedures. Military still frequent civilian airports so they can stay familiar with civilian airport ops and procedures. Not a big deal at all. Unusual, but definitely not the big deal that everyone is making of it.

Reread Rattled--The aircraft were on approach, not taking off. Radar gun? When one is accustomed to seeing an aircraft on final at APPX 125 Kts., I think a great deviation from the "usual" speed would be noted.

The biggest problem is the airport not helping and covering this up.

I wouldn't expect the airport to come onto CD to answer us yahoos. Has anyone filed a formal complaint with the airport and asked for a response? Until someone does and they refuse to reply...a cover up is a pretty harsh term to characterize this.

Read post #12. It reads that an attempt was made to get an answer. The venue to get a response was in post #13.

I beg to differ that post #12 means they made a formal inquiry. I believe the poster is only paraphrasing from the KSAT story.

Default Agreed, much ado about nothing.

Hell, I've always lived under flight paths around here. Only difference; was in the beginning they all used to be propeller driven craft.
I would call Rep. Castro.

I will support the military and their right to train until the day I die, but they should let us know before they plan on buzzing residential areas. We are not complaining, we are trying to figure out what happened. I did call around, but have gotten no answer. We were a little more than just "woken up". My son was in hysteria, crying and couldn't get back to sleep. I was so frightened my hands were shaking, thinking we were under attack. Civilians have the right to know what is considered normal and what isn't, otherwise we can't be prepared in case of an emergency because we won't know it's an emergency.

Another possibility was that they were fighter jets out of Randolph scrambled to intercept and escort an aircraft that had come in from the south that raised suspicions from ICE (US Customs)/DEA or any other 3 letter agency. The hush-hush approach a matter of national security.

Randolph doesn't have any armed aircraft assigned nor do they have a weapons storage area. Lackland, on the other hand, does have aircraft assigned who could do so, but this wasn't near there.
