I should add that on the radio this morning, there was discussion that the ticket may not be the only cost associated with one of these violations. Auto insurance companies may treat this as a "Reckless Operation" violation, which will be sufficient cause to raise your insurance rates.

City of Austin's hands-free ordinance says that mobile device use while at a complete stop is an "affirmative defense to prosecution".

That's why I'm not a fan of piece-meal legislation. One city has their definition of hands-free, while another city either doesn't have an ordinance ... or has a slighly different definition.

They mention that in the WOAI story. Those ticketed provide more proof John Wayne was onto something with his quote.

He looked thru the side window for about 20 seconds, then turned on his lights and pulled her over in the Taco Cabana parking lot.

This past friday, there was a patrol car sitting in the turn lane on DeZavala across from the entrance to Walmart. He was looking at every car that drove by and the ones waiting for the light. While I was waiting for traffic to move, he pulled over a car next to me. I saw her texting as I sat there. Caught myself clapping my hands as the light turned green.....
Wow thats horrible that you delight in the misery and misfortunate of others.

FWIW, i dont agree with the ordinance at all. What a person does in their vehicle is their business.

Except when it could potentially cause harm to others.

Misery and misfortunate??

You mean misfortune.

It's not a misfortune when you bring it on yourself...that's called being stupid.

A lot of people cannot drive safely and yack or text on the phone at the same time..that's a fact.
How many people do you see swerving on the road, and/or have their eyes glued to the phone when you pass them up? How many times are you in a line at a stop light when it turns green, and some dillweed in front of you doesn't go and holds up traffic until someone blows the horn, because their attention is on their phone, instead of paying attention to whats going on around them? Not using their turn signals, because their phone is in their left hand and can't be bothered to reach the turn signal lever?

Call it what you want, but I don't want any more airheads on the road endangering me and my family because they have to play with their toy instead of driving their vehicle safely.

And FWIW....I couldn't care less what you think.
