I could've swore I had a post in here that mentioned something about the article saying that in the end the power company trumps the consumer on who ultimately controls the thermostat in an emergency (with no definition of what the emergency could be). but for some strange reason the post disappeared... hmmmm
maybe my opinion of san fran/california politics was too much for someone or something?

BTW, I lived by Qualcomm Stadium and didn't have a/c, but that only sucked about one week per year. That weather is basically perfect out there. Unless you go inland a little bit more, then a/c really isn't an option..

BTW2, I loved the part about the signal not being hackable.. riiiiiiiiiiiiight, that stupid statement has never been shot down before..

And so I guess it's already happening in Texas...just on a volunteer basis. Still a little Big Brother-ish, but you sign up for it.
Interesting. No mention of a discount to the rates. It looks like the main benefit to the consumer is a case of the warm (AC-less) fuzzies for personally helping to keep the community out of rolling-blackout mode.

I'm a little less enthusiastic without an accompanying discount, but I'd still consider it.

Doesn't it say you can save up to 10% on your heating and cooling bills? Maybe I am misreading it? Don't know, don't care, really, I can control my own thermostat, thankyouverymuch.

Yes, you beat me to it, I was going to point out the same......

My guess is that it will be a volunteer basis to begin with, but then, at some future point.......

Only time I remember it being in the 90's there was when they had Santa Anna winds a few times a year.... Any time the weather gets above 80 everyone complains about how hot it is..

If I'm reading it right, the 10% savings comes from using the setback feature of the thermostat.

1) Texas courts are allowing un-manned aircraft to track people.
2) Texas courts allow un-warranted tracking of people through cellphones.

I agree, mandates like the thermostat would probably not happen here first. Yet I'm not going to pretend big brother is not alive here in texas.

Don't forget the new device in some Texas LE vehicles that can scan and check the record of every license plate in the vicinity within 1 second and let the LEO know of any stolen or wanted vehicles it finds.

You have to figure that it's only a matter of time before these go in as fixed installations next to busy highways.
