Hey, has anyone tried Bawdsey Manor British Tearoom (18771 FM 2252, San Antonio 78266)? The review by Southern Living looks very promising, but I hate getting my hopes up yet again only to experience another disappointment. My oldest boy and I are actually heading up to Buda tomorrow (guess why? ) and we may stop by one the way home, it is just their home page is not working and I guess I'll have to call for hours.

Standby for a full report if it's good, and a brief one if it's not.

Cheers! M2

I'm pretty sure that is where they met and worked when they were in school.

We have a Fox & Hound here in Houston. I am glad to hear there is one in SA, we'll have to try it! My hubby loves fish & chips with malt vinegar!

Cabelas!!! I need to go there too. I still have a bunch of Cabela points to spend there. It just isn't as much fun shopping online.

Have fun!! Don't eat in the restaraunt in Cabelas. It is nasty and over priced!!

Yep, TTG is right, but we are also meeting someone from Austin and Cabela's is a great meeting point!

And it looks like Sapphire is correct, I tried calling and got a message that the number is no longer in service.

So Lion and Rose is good...I was not impressed with the fish and chips. Lots of batter on the fish and not a lot of fish on the inside. But some other things to try there...the Shepard's pie and the Scottish eggs for appetizer!

My sister just got married in Los Osos....at a nursery/tree place. It was soooo beautiful. My Mom lives in Paso Robles....sister lives in San Luis Obispo. Never even thought to try fish and chips there....will next time though.

The tea shop was sold and is now called "British Sensations". It's located in the Bracken Village Bracken Village SA

Learned that the hard way.. took forever to find it as I didn't know it was in Bracken Village, nor was there a sign on the road saying British Sensations was in it.

British Sensations is probably the closest thing you'll get to an authentic British tea room in SA.. well because it's one of a few. I was actually disappointed as they served tea that you can buy at even a place like HEB. The food was all right, they seemed to use some cheap hamburger meat in the Shepherd's Pie I had.

There is a little 'pantry' selling British goods right next to the tea room. Everything in it is overpriced and the store owner is a bit dishonest in my opinion. They make it appear that they imported it all from England. However, in truth, they bought their inventory from Central Market, World Market, and even HEB. $1.50 for a tiny bag of Walker's is not a fair price. There aren't any price tags so I ended up paying over $12 for some crisps

I would go solely for the ambiance. The decorations are quite nice and the tea is pretty good, albeit you can make it at home for a much cheaper price.

I have heard of British Sensations before, they sponsor a lot of the British SITCOMs on PBS; but I didn't know they had take over the Bawdsey Manor British Tearoom. I went to their web site and saw nothing about fish and chips, do they serve anything besides tea?

Cheers! M2

Smile Bawdsey manor british tearoom

Bawdsey Manor was not sold to British Sensations. They moved into the building where Bawdsey had been for years. The ambiance is due to what the sisters left behind. Bawdsey Manor actually closed shop, however, there is some buzz that they are reopening at another location. Can't wait!!!!!!
