My aunt bought one in Austin and I love the Iron Horse plan because we looking into building a house but we decided we wanted a house in a hood that had a pool already. Anyway she has hadgreat luck with her house no major problems and she had a year to report any problems and when she did (believe me she was very nick picky) they always can out and fixed them pronto.

I purchased my home 8 years ago when it was called Continental. We have nearly had no issues with our house, for the exception of the crappy, under tonnaged central-air system manufactured by GMC (not the truck company - Goodman Manufacturing Company).
I'd definetly buy another Continental/DR Horton home if given the opportunity.

I'm currently building a D.R. Horton home at this time. Given that I'm very picky and very hands on about certain things, my expectations tend to be a bit higher. But who shouldn't expect a relatively decent product when you're spending almost a quarter of a mil on a "new" home, right?
My experience has been a mixed one so far, but I would have to say that it has been "good" as of late. The combination of having one of their better superintendents along with hiring my own inspector during construction are resulting in us having a better than average product.
Fast tract builders can and will try to cut corners. Sometimes at the expense of quality. I wouldn't exclude custom builder from this either. This is the nature of an industry that is unregulated and very powerful. [For starters, just check your contract for arbitation clauses.] But if you're willing to invest in a good inspector and stay on top of things, you can (at the very least), know that your home will have been built relatively better -even if it is by a small margain. Fortunately, my "builder" (a.k.a. Project Manager/ Superintendent) turned out to be very accomodating after a very difficult start. We have a pretty good working relationship right now.
I hope that by the time we get through our two additional inspections and walkthrough, that I will have a more finalized opinion.

The Iron Horse was #3 on the list of plans we liked. I liked how the master bedroom is "bridged" to the game room.
Very nice layout.

D.R. Horton Inquery?
Hello jvictor,
Contact Mr. Perales at scperales@drhorton.com, a local sales representative at Solana Ridge. I know he is not located in the subdivision you are searching for, but at least he can give you a more in-depth response to your question.
If you need more assistance, I am a licensed Real Estate Sales Agent, a member of the San Antonio Board of Realtors, Texas Assoscition of Realtors and the National Assoscition of Realtors, I would be happy to answer any of your questions.

We have had extensive experience with Continental/DR Horton. My wife and I have owned 3 of their homes since 1999, and are in the process of buying our 4th (closing on Dec 29). We have had fairly good experiences with this builder. We are fairly experienced and picky home builders/buyers and have not had any unresolved problems to date.
The price to value of their homes is good and is why we keep coming back to them. If you are not sure of anything ask them and keep asking until you are satisfied that you understand. You must be a pro-active buyer if you want to avoid any problems. Understanding the building process and buying process for that matter is very important for you and will pay you big dividends later down the road.
Good luck and enjoy the experience.

My wife and I bought a DR Horton (when it was continental) about 4 years ago. We were very pleased with the house and our only complaint is it took a while for them to perform some warranty issues, which were eventually resolved. We have since bought a home from another builder and the only differences we see between the homes are a few more pieces of crown molding and some other cosmetic features (and about another 100 grand). As far as the nuts and bolts of the construction, I actually think DR Horton is a more solid home than our current Newmark home.
