So, my parents are going to be visiting this coming weekend from AZ. We would love to take them for a drive to see fields of flowers, have some lunch and take some pictures on Saturday (April 4).
I live Just north of stone oak, so north would be good. My dad, though in great health is almost 80, so a 3 hour drive is not ideal, he is good for an hour or so though, he walks just fine but his patience might wear thin if it's a very long trip. ;-)

Fredericksburg? Gruene? IDK where to even start....any suggestions and ideas for a fun afternoon are welcome!

Thank you.

Well, with the travel time being limited, I would just go up 281 towards Johnson City. Stop in Blanco and eat at the Blanco Cafe....good food.

Take a left on 290 in Johnson City and head towards Fredricksburg. Usually tons of wildflowers, especially as you near LBJ State Park. (Ladybird Johnson was the one that started the wildflower program in Texas...for those that don't know.) Take the drive thru the park...you don't have to use the tour buses anymore, just use your car. Beautiful place.

Wildseed Farm is down the road...usually full of flowers this time of year.

Or maybe grab lunch in Fredricksburg and let your dad rest up a bit. Come back on the backroads and visit Luckenbach. From there take 1376 to 1888 and take it all the way back to Blanco. It parallels the Blanco River most of the way...pretty scenery.

Enjoy the time with your parents!
