You've chanced upon a wonderful idea. Especially so because Chaka's posts were so- spot on and, quite a few posts back.

LOL

Ghetto????
The people that live in that area, Hart St., Mary St., Beatrice St., etc.. may be poor(however you define poor,) but they are proud people. Their houses( yes, houses, home owners, not apartment people,) may be a bit smaller, but maintained very well, same with their yards. Yes, they are proud people who aren't judgemental, who know how to spell.

^^^THIS. My wife grew up very near this area. Two degrees later, she teaches there. It is a far cry from the overused term, "ghetto". They may be poor, but they are the working poor. Are there still problems? Of course. But when you hear the excitement of a high school kid whose family just bought a home near Harlandale HS or when you see these kids participating at a robotics competition, you realize that they are a close community!

The changes happening on the southside are very good indeed. Oh, and while my wife would probably agree with malcorub16 that it was the opening of Foley's (Macy's) that signaled the rebirth of the southside... I prefer to think that it was when Chick-fil-A opened.

Northsiders get a bad rap from southsiders thinking we're all snobs not true. But again some Northsiders think all southsiders are slobs again not true. I work on the southeast side and see many well kept neighborhoods.

Was it UT or UIW? Either way, the location at Brookes is a good fit.

.. that are surrounded by ghettos... ROFL lipstick on a pig, you cant hide the ugly truth. south/east/west sides of town MAY have pockets of good areas that are 'well kept', but they are surrounded by ugly, blighted neighborhoods.

no thanks, ill take the hill country / north sides / downtown over those messes anyday!

As if the northside didn't have any 'ghettos' of their own. More and more northside neighborhoods are falling below what most would be categorized as the 'typical' southside neighborhood in terms of quality of life.
