San Antonio is facing Uber image concerns - San Antonio Business Journal

You think?? The image concern has been well beyond the Uber issue and this just adds to the pot. Thank you for once again moving San Antonio backwards.

This is what happens when people don't vote! ....or maybe it's when some people "do" vote?

"a city perceived as set in outdated ways" ??

There's a lot more than "image" or "perception" involved....it's an endemic mindset in San Antonio.

Lud·dite
ˈlədˌīt/
noun
a member of any of the bands of English workers who destroyed machinery, especially in cotton and woolen mills, that they believed was threatening their jobs (1811–16).
a person opposed to increased industrialization or new technology.
"a small-minded Luddite resisting progress"

You people are making a mountain over a mole hill.

Vancouver, BC
Houston, TX
Kansas City (Google fiber city)
New Mexico (statewide)
San Diego (but only airport routes have been restricted)
Portland might soon be killing them
Las Vegas (off and on)

All areas of the country that are make Uber or Lyft leave. Personally I think we should loosen cabbies regulation and green light ride-sharing.

Uber backed out of its deal with the city council at the 11th hour because it was banking on the legislature to bail it out from the tyranny of the city's restrictions. Trusting the legislature proved to be a mistake, because the lege didn't move the bill forward that would have prevented cities from regulating TNCs. Whoops!

I predict Uber makes a new deal with the city within 6 months - after the city elections.

You nailed it. SA will never change its mindset until more transplants with different mindsets start a movement. Here are some quotes from the article that supports this:

================================================== =========================
“We were doing fine before they came,” he said. “We’re doing fine now that they’ve left.” – Robert Gonzales (who has worked in the taxi business for well over three decades)
================================================== =========================

I can’t tell you how many times I have heard this statement and this is the exact mindset that keeps SA behind.

================================================== =========================
“Ride-sharing will continue to thrive in tech-friendly cities across the U.S. such as Austin, Dallas and Houston,” Lemoi said. He contends that the message San Antonio has delivered by losing Uber and Lyft is that it doesn’t support such innovation. “I’ve considered moving back to Seattle or to another city,” Lemoi said. “San Antonio is 10 years behind the East and West coasts.” – Blake Lemoi
================================================== =========================

10 years behind is being generous. LOL.

================================================== =========================
“When a company or an employee considering San Antonio lands in our city and cannot connect with Uber, it does not speak well of our openness to new ideas and new technologies,” Weston said. “We must have Uber and Lyft in our city.” – Graham Weston
================================================== =========================

================================================== =========================
“San Antonio does need to repair its image,” Lemoi said. “It needs to embrace change.” – Blake Lemoi
================================================== =========================

This city is corrupted and is controlled by a handful who wants to keep things the way they are so they can retire comfortably to benefit their own agendas.

San Antonio is filled with working class, chip-on-shoulder sentiment and people who constantly say 'if it's just good enough, then great!'

A small portion of this city wants more, speaks for more and is usually told to go to Austin because of it. Times are a-changing kids: San Antonio will be pulled into the modern world whether folks like it or not.

It's all about perception management; throw out false perceptions to mask what's really going on.
May I remind, mayoral election is cominc up.. Kill Uber to get more votes, for now but rest assured S.A. will get ride share back AND street car/ light rail. You can't stop it!!!
