Yesterday morning I was listening to a local morning talk show about how we need to be on High alert this 4th of July of possible terrorist activities in our country, especially with all the recent killings by Isis.
So, I was driving up San Pedro north of loop 410 and I pull into a 7/11 on the right to get an iced tea; this must have been around 9:30am. As I walk in, and other customers were there as well, the two Arabic guys behind the counter turn up their radio VERY loud where you could hear throughout the store, blaring Arabic music and both of them start to sing in arabic just as loud as the music was. So, here I get out of my car listening to radio heads talking about possible terrorist threats this weekend, walk into 7/11 and hear that! Perhaps it's my ignorance to the Arabic language and music, but I must say, I felt extremely uncomfortable and I can honestly say I don't think I've EVER felt "that" feeling.

I think if I walked into a store with arabic music playing I'd start dancing.

Um, it's a 7/11.

I've been in plenty of shops with music blaring ,and some smaller ones where the patrons or owners start singing. It's fabulous. Singing = joy. Smile and enjoy it.

Well, unless it's country. Then it's just painful.

The Arab music I remember from my time over there was one or two notes, played slow and painful.

While I agree with you, a 7-11 isn't exactly what I would call a professional environment, so I don't think it would really strike me as anything more than annoying.

Exactly!! Those are my thoughts, as well...
7/11 are big convenience stores, not the little mom and pop convenience store, where you may hear incidents like described..............

Guarantee, you would not hear that in a Valero convenience store, and 7/11 are bigger "convenience," stores...

I love Arab pop music, but were they really Arab? I know a lot of people confuse Pakistanis and Indians for Arabs.

The way I understand it, not all of the 7-11 stores are corporate owned like Valero. The non corporate ones do have a different vibe to them. perhaps just managed in a different way?
