I think the OPs best bet would be UTHSC. As another poster mentioned, it won't be free but at least will be at reduced rate.

Paka's tip is great to use in the meantime.

Actually Paka's tip isn't all that great and is not a substitute for an extraction. Clove oil does not kill the nerve. The nerve is already dead. If it wasn't, the OP wouldn't be able to sleep. Clove oil is good for dry sockets, but dry sockets only happen after the tooth is extracted, obviously, and only on lower teeth. OP said it was an upper tooth. Relying on an over the counter oil to soothe the area could lead to a serious infection that would require hospitalization and much more severe and expensive treatment. Get the tooth out before it swells up.

Thanks JAustin. I had always thought clove oil was good to use in the meantime before an extraction.

I never had a tooth extracted (knocks on wood) but heard that from many others.

Paka said "kill the nerve PAIN" not "kill the nerve."

The way I understand it, clove oil will in fact kill an exposed nerve, therefore killing the pain as well.

What I was saying is that the nerve is already dead so there is no nerve pain to kill. If the nerve wasn't already dead, the OP would be in agonizing excruciating pain. The pain he has is from chronic apical periodontitis. Clove oil won't get to the area that it would need to for any relief. Those kits tend to do more harm then good by making people wait until true cellulitis infection sets in, which dramatically increases risks and costs associated. Don't patch the boat with that rubber spray on TV. Fix it the right way before it sinks.
