If I remember correctly, the feds did this rebate thing several years ago. I think it was $600 per house hold that time. And guess what. Property taxes that year rose by an average of $600 in San Antonio.

Either pay off my USAA card, or if it's paid off by the time I get it, use it to go to Vegas.

Yes it will be charged back to our grandchildren. That is the beuaty of the system - make sure that we tax people who are not in the room i.e. our children and grandchildren.

The refund is a disgrace and is why I will party when Mr. Bush leaves office.

Yes, I remember that year, and that 600ish tax hike, and my escrow was short, so my mortgage payment went up. Good year...

I will use my rebate to declare Jihad on OPEC!

I like what Mike Huckabee said about this program.

"...we'll probably end up borrowing this $150 billion from the Chinese. And when we get those rebate checks, most people are going to go out and buy stuff that's been imported from China. I have to wonder whose economy is going to be stimulated the most by the package."

Yea, I liked the remark too about how he would have used it to support jobs in the US by rebuilding the infastructure...US cement and US steel put to work on US soil...sounded REALLY good to me!

I don't know what the interest rate on your savings account is, but have you shopped around? We just sold our house in the DC Metro area, and have a good amount of money (well over 100k) to throw into an account. If you look around, you'll find plenty of banks offering great rates (long-term and introductory) on accounts of all sizes.

Ah yes, but find me someone who does mind robbing from their children and grandchildren to pay for medicare/SS bennies. These little refund checks have nothing on that intergeneration debt.
