The official page for The Town Center at La Cantera has launched.

THETOWNCENTERATLACANTERA.COM

There are renderings still to come (they're not on the site yet), but there is a interactive map that lets you zoom in on the Town Center development. Also there's information on three other La Cantera developments including West Ridge, a 1 million sq ft class A office park.

The plans always look nice. It's the finished product I'm worried about.

I hope they take a cue from the store successes of The Domain in Austin: A nice mix of boutique, chain, homegrown and otherwise. It's got a nice, neighborhood feeling about it and the design flows well. Reminds me of a smaller version of The Grove in LA.

What I don't want to see is them fill the space with the same crap we've already got in other parts of SA: Nail salons, bland day-spas, fast food, Starbucks. If La Cantera wants to continue to be taken seriously as THE shopping mecca in San Antonio, then it needs to broaden that way. Their latest expansion is turning out as a nice design piece with several vacancies. I hope they can fill it up before prime shopping season begins.

Ben, did you look at the site? Do you honestly think they'd even consider building a suburban strip mall with nail salons and fast food restaurants?

I mean there's cynical and then there's just cynical for the sake of cynical.

Okay, okay. Maybe I was a little cynical a little fast. *wink*

I still stand by my 'finished product' line: We'll have to see what happens when it's all said and done. I've seen that sort of thing happen before, so it's not impossible that the developer will stumble. People discount what kind of buying power San Antonio has all the time and I just hope they continue to realize that we've got the money (and are willing to part with it).

I agree that SA is undervalued when it comes to buying/purchasing power but the developers (USAA) aren't stupid and they do their homework so they know the market which is why this and things like Eilan are being built.

Look at the demographics of the 5 mile radius around La Cantera, something like 200,000 people with a household income of $80,000, that's $30,000 more than a city like Scottsdale. Although their population is about 290,000.
