Thumbs up Mid Century Modern Homes in San Antonio?

Hi Everybody,

Looking to relocate in San Antonio in the next few and I am interested in 1950's Mid Century Modern design. I would love to hear back from some folks on any homes that may be coming up for sale in the future. I really enjoy post & beam design, but a ranch may work,

Thanks in advance,

Ace

Search "mid century modern" on this forum. There is a thread with extensive discussion about MCM architecture & history in San Antonio.

Just found a cool MCM (1955?) in a GREAT area, not on MLS yet, and very low-priced in my opinion (144K, and it being a buyers market, I bet a deal could be made, BUT this is pretty dang low for the area), it's a fixer-upper though (not nearly as bad as that O'Neil Ford I posted a couple of weeks ago though for that outrageous price (AND in the same neighborhood no less!):

Again, Moderator cut: TOS Violation just a rabid MCM enthusiast who wants folks who dig MCM to buy these homes and NOT re-muddle 'n' Home Depot-ize 'em. Cheerio!

That's pretty cool, thanks for the pic and info. I just wish there were more threads where I could reread this same information.

Okay, I'll go ahead and post this same info in a few more threads if you like, maybe some unrelated ones? Thanks for the advice!

...oh yeah, here's a kinda Dwell-ish semi-redo on an MCM ranch in Olmos Park (mucho expensive, a tad under a million, youch! BUT in wonderful neighborhood - the best place to live in SA IMO):

For midcentury homes- I like the Shearer Hills neighborhood between san pedro and mccullough from basse to rector. Inspiration Hills is another area with less examples, but true, mcm homes and styles. An undiscovered area is near mccreless mall. I am not sure of the name, but the area was popular in the 50 and early 60s.

I forgot about another neighborhood- Dellview along I 10.
The homes there are smaller than the scale you would see in Shearer Hills, but they are built very well. The neighborhood might be transitional in some eyes in terms of gentrification. Shearer Hills has maintained good property values and an excellent central location. I sincerely hope this helps.

What is your price range, and what kind of neighborhood do you wan't to live in? Many MCM's are in terrible (IMO) neighborhoods (I'm not naming names, don't want to start a big debate here).

I have alot of the same vintage items that I bought at moving sales, garage sales and estate sales... got them for a song and there is alot of this kind of stuff out there still. Why pay ridiculous prices? You can even get this stuff new and cheaper at Costco's website.
