NW has been ok on trans-pacific flights, but on domestic and trans-atlantic flights i've had horrible experiences with service.

I am finding good fares on NW; they have direct flights at convenient times for $229 round trip. I had a good experience last weekend on NW.
Southwest always seems to have a connection. Spirit (another Detroit hub airline) is opening service to SA in April, but it connects thru Florida and has long lay overs.
I have done a lot of searching around & was just wondering if I was missing anything! Thanks for all the good feedback.
