1604 more traffic?
Did anyone else notice that 1604 was bumper to bumper this weekend? I thought it was rush hour or something! We have driven on it, during the weekend many times and it was never as busy as this weekend. Anyone know what was going on?

Probably because 410 was closed [in both directions] from San Pedro to Broadway. I stayed clear of both 410 AND 1604 this weekend knowing the overflow from 410 would probably affect 1604.

I noticed that it seemed like every Transguide sign in the city mentioned this closure, so it's no wonder people sought out alternate routes.

They had a segment on News4 this weekend where they were interviewing drivers stuck in the madness on 410. Interesting that most people stuck in it didn't have a clue that it was going to be closed. For a week before the closure, it was all over the news and on Transguide. It's gotten to the point that anything that I need to do on 410 or I-10 lately, I do it during the week...and stay clear of both on the weekends.

Funny, this was on the far west side of 1604, near Cuelebra. I didn't realize that it would have affected traffic going south on 1604 that much! We actually needed to go out this weekend for personal appointments. So, it was unavoidable.
It's not that I don't watch the news and try to gather what's going on with traffic, I think it just gets to be TOO much with all of the road/lane closures and it's hard to keep up! 410 is closed on the weekends all of the time!

I have been one of those people a couple of times and it isn't fun. I usually get on 410 at Blanco, which is right at the western edge of the area that has been subject to repeated closures. Getting on 410 there, I don't see a Transguide sign, and I don't find out about the closure until it's too late to get off.

I just did from 1604 at I-35 (Live Oak) to Westcreek this afternoon (Monday)...left moms at 2:15 and got home at 2:46...rather good time if you ask me...and I was so grateful. Took 1604 the entire way and got here before the schoolbus/traffic issues hit.

Mojo>> 1604 will always be jammed because of the lights at 151, shanefield, ?? , and Braun. If all these lights were interchanges or right-turn only's, then 1604 would flow much better. Apparently there is a budget crisis in TexDOT now and the odds of this getting fixed before the 281 tollway is nill. If I hear one more hour of Joe Pags talk about 'his' 281 tollway, I may stop listening to him.
The reason for the recent congestion that you're seeing on the west side of 1604 is due to the explosion in residents. It use to only be weekends with tourists between sea world and fiesta texas but now there are enough people to cause congestion every day.
