Hello my husband and I are moving to San Antonio and are having an issue with finding a place to live. He has to register as an offender and before the nasty comments start he is classified as low risk for indecent exposure. He has no restrictions as he has completed he probation/community service 7 years ago but still has three years left on the registry. Most apartment complexes I've talked to will not accept someone who is on the registry and I get turned away. I have an OK credit score 600's and can make monthly payment of $700, any help we can get will be greatly appreciated. God Bless.

You need to contact an apartment locator. They'll know which complexes will accept someone on the registry.

Does he have a PO or a case manager that may be able to help with housing concerns (after rereading I see you're relocating so I'm not sure if that's an option unless it's from another city in Texas) Renting from someone personally may also be an option. Check Craigslist, Zillow, hotpads, etc, for housing that may be by an owner who may be willing to work with you.

Maybe try a different locator, call a few and see if one can help. Some are a lot better at their jobs than others. It's been too many years since I've used one to be able to recommend one, but it's worth calling around.

Also, what about looking at the registry for the zip codes you're wanting to live in and see which offenders in that zip code have addresses with an apartment number? Then you can look up the street address and see what complex it is, call and ask if they accept sex offenders. I looked at the registry database and the map function doesn't seem to be working right now which makes it trickier.

Get the apartment in your name only, if that's the case..
Be smart about it and don't put it out on public forums....
Figure it out, be smart; and don't play the victim.

That could work but won't he still have to register his address at the apartments?

He would still have to register, and if the apartments found out he was living there they would insist that he be added to the lease, a background check would be run, and then the couple would be worse off because she would be locked into a lease and he wouldn't be allowed to live there.

I've been looking on craigslist, and I checked out some homes for rent today some seem to be really expensive though. I did think of just putting myself on this lease but the alternative is too risky to take.
