Hello, I'm from San Jose, CA. My husband and I soon want to visit San Antonio, TX. The numbers make sense and it seems to be a great place to raise our family. We are looking for a better quality of life where our money could be used wisely. My husband works in Education Administration and I plan to be a stay at home mom. We currently have a 1 year old son and plan on having at least one more child. We have done research and the Hill Country is very attractive to us because of the trees and natural vegetation we have seen in pictures. Safety is our main concern, we want to live in a safe neighborhood. Flooding is a major concern for us as well. We would like to live near great schools, in a great community as we will have no family over there. Also, I grew up in a very diverse neighborhood, it would be great to find a nice neighborhood like that, but I know that's not always the case. Can anyone give me feedback on where I should begin? We would like to visit within the next 2 months and are obviously on the very early stages.

As you look, pay close attention to the topography of the area you're in. Ensure that you're on the uphill side of things - i.e., if you have to go up a slope from your property to the roadway, runoff COULD be an issue. Watch for low water crossings in your drive to the location - is there lots of dead vegatation in the fencing? Sure sign of a crossing that floods readily. Use a GPS - have an idea as to the elevation of the general area, then look again at the area that you're considering. Higher is better.....

All in all, most flood-prone areas are pretty easy to spot if you're reasonably observant - but always ask for a copy of the 100-year flood map if you're unfamiliar with the locale.

If you do not live on a river or drive into a flooded roadway then you will not have to worry about flooding.

I wanted stone oak area first ,just for the schools, but traffic reminded me of California

Except it's "Bulverde " not "belverde." And I would head out that way as well.

I wouldn't worry about where to look, I'd be more concerned about the job. There aren't many openings in his field. Typically, for you to get into any kind of administration position here you must have worked at AT&T or a ranking military. That's on most of the hires resume.

Are you sure you want to live in "the country" or the country suburbs? You'll ahve to see what you think but personally, I'd move closer in - look at neighborhoods in NEISD or Alamo Heights

I remember when Bulverde, Boerne, and even the Stone Oak area was " country".
Not anymore. Need to go a lot further out to have the country feel and lifestyle.
