Now I'm looking for Rent To Own
Thanks!
I have been using Zillow a lot to look up info on homes that I was finding on the MLS - especially the satellite pictures.
I never thought about using it to search for houses. I found several houses on Zillow that aren't in the MLS. Great info!
Now I think that it would be great if I could find a nice rent-to-own house. I know it's going to be super hard to get a house that includes everything on my list, but I was thinking that it would be great if I could rent a house that fit some of my criteria. If I find out later that i can live with not having everything I want, then I buy the house. If I find that I don't like the house, I could move on??
It appears to me though that a lot of folks do rent to own because they can't get traditional financing??
Anyone know any good rent-to-own sites for SA?

I really don't know of any specific rent-to-own sites, although they are sometimes listed as such on craigslist.com both under rentals and homes for sale.
What I have done in the past when I was looking for a home to lease... and couldn't find one...was contact the owners direct that had their homes for sale that I liked (you can get that info off the county property tax records website for any county, or for the FSBO's, off of their listing)... and asked them if they'd consider leasing. Sure enough, one did... and it worked out well... gives you time to find out every little thing right or wrong with the home... anyway, we loved it and purchased it after a few years of leasing without any of the upfront rent-to-own charges usually incurred going that route.
So, you never know... the worst that can happen is they'd say no!

Hello,
Not trying to flame you, but I disagree. There is a law in San Antonio against Basketball hoops being set up on the street.
So, NO they do not have the right of way. I mean obviously we are not going to plow into them, but you do have the right to call and get the police to ask them to move to a driveway.
Had the same problem on my street and had to play the mean old scrooge after my hood was dented by a basketball.
Sorry for the thread hijack, I just agree that the basketball hoop can be a source of frustration to the motorist.
Have a Great Day!

did you ever find a rent to own home? I've been looking also and happened upon one of my favorite pages (here) while searching! Just wondering if you've had any luck.

That is the key word.. pedestrians have the right of way.. they are not camping out trying to play basketball.. it will only take them a minute or so to cross the street... once they have crossed the driver may proceed on...
Kids playing basketball and camping in the middle of the street do not have the right of way.. they move and let the cars through.. now I can understand we are not going to run them over.. but we must remember the streets were made to drive on.. not play on..

isnt there also a law against jaywalking, which in this case is almost the same thing as crossing or playing at any other place other than a crosswalk. So, ethically, the pedestrian, should be watched for and avoided, but the street is for the car, and the sidewalk is for the pedestrian. The parks is for the basketball. Not the streets, that is obstructing traffic.

Actually, pedestrians have the right of way when they are in a legal crosswalk or crossing at a light...that is why they get ticketed for jaywalking. If a vehicle accidentially hits a pedestrian while the pedestrian is walking outside of a legal crossing (jaywalking), the driver will not be held accountable. Also...people aren't suppose to be playing basketball in the street. The hoops/games in the streets should not be occurring but is rarely enforced.

threat topic?
(topic should be THREAD topic, not 'threat')
I looked up in Wikipedia for 'Hijacked thread' and it displayed a link to this thread.
I'm glad we have the same opinion on what constitues illegal pedestrians. Here is a laundry list of ordinance violations within the city but I couldn't find on on basketball hoops in the street.
Enforcement Codes
As you can see from this list, LOTS of violations occur DAILY but are not corrected. Most common? "Signs illegally placed on city right of way or utility poles. Signs will be removed and disposed. Cases will be filed in Municipal Court against business sign owner." How many business owners are actually tracked down and fined because they put signs on a utility pole?
Can anyone ask a SAPD on what the law is on BB hoops?
Here are a couple articles from DC and California about kids-in-the-street. Streetplay Essays: Will they ban street games in Fairfax, VA? and Street fight (LA says it's illegal for kids to play ball on residential streets)

its hard trying to find the home you want. what has worked for me is just driving around. i would pick an area that i liked, then start driving the streets around it. amazing the things you find, good and bad!
lots of "blood in the water" right now with homes. a buyer can get some major deals right now. i know i am practicly giving away my life savings to sell a home i own off 151 and westover hills, and im not alone.
