Jews in San Antonio
Are there many there? My Jewish friend with his wife and children are moving there in 2 months and he wanted to know if there were many Jews there.

Yes...lots, especially in Clark high school area. Several temples, JCC on both NW Military & bitters. You will see lots of people walking on Saturdays in that area. The HEB on NW Military and Huebner has a large kosher section.

Lots would be a relative term. But I second that about the HEB and the area.

Yup, that's where the Chinese restaurant (Beijing) serves hot and sour soup with out pork. Always a giveaway that you're in a Jewish neighborhood!

In that area there are two synagogues - Rodfei Shalohm (sorry if I misspelled) which is Orthodox, and Agudas Achim - which i think is reformed. Temple Beth El is the other large synagogue in town and it's in the Monte Vista area.

That's interesting. I wonder how far back the Jewish population dates in San Antonio. I know that many Jews did come to the US in the mid 1800s from Germany. I guess some of them might have made their way to Texas.
