Sounds alot like the European budget airlines. We are flying to Ireland from London in a few weeks for a penny a person, plus $60 taxes of course, but still. I had heard they were starting to have more budget airlines in the States, or planning to, if its anything like the European ones, the flight is just a seat, no drinks/food included, must pay extra for checked bags and if you want drink/food, but hey, still cant beat the flight, and it flies to the same place and gets there the same time as the $1000 flight.

Guerilla, maybe because ATX is close enough where you can easily drive and catch that flight. Moderator cut: personal remarks, stick to the OP

I saw a special on aerobus from NBC or ABC. It's a super cheap no frills airlines. Everything else costs extra, hence the cheap rates. I thought they only did flights to a couple of midwest/east coast cities. had no idea they were in Texas.

I wouldn't fly Viva Aerobus. You have to walk over (in the elements) to enter the plane, too. There were a lot of other things that were VERY cheap about the airlie, too (in terms of quality). I'll have to find and post those.

Oh no!!!! You have to walk to the flight. I would rather pay $800 more to have an air-ramp to the door. . . The budget airline thing has been a positive thing in Europe as most people dont care to walk to your flight (all of 30 seconds from the bus that takes you there) and just bring on a soda or water and in return get incredibly cheap flights. I am glad they are starting this more prevalently in North America.

It is more than just walking to the flight. Much more lower quality things:

I still have a hard time believing that this will work out. Just bc a low cost airline (that btw is brand new) comes to town doesn't mean business will follow. And if they are banking on people driving from Houston and San Antonio....I think they might be mistaken. The people that are flying out of those cities are usually people of means. Loading they're own luggage on to a plane and Standing out in the elements to board the plane just isn't their cup of tea. And the fact that the guy specifically states that Austin has had a hard time attracting flights to Mexico should be a big ol' red flag to the city AND the airline, that this may be too huge of a risk. (Maybe more of a risk to the airline than the city though) What this sounds like to me imho, is the city of Austin trying to further justify the I in ABIA. As it stands I believe Austin has maybe a few seasonal flights to Mexico, and a couple of daily's to Mexico? Look, I'm not trying to insult Austin as some on here would take it that I was....Im looking at this from a business stand point, and something about this just doesn't smell right. I feel that the city and the Airline are going to be very disappointed with the results of this....now if it happens to work out...more power to Austin and I will stand corrected!
