We avoided KB because of the reputation and went with a builder we hadn't heard of but seemed to have a good reputation in another state. Our foundation cracked because the soil wasn't prepped right. We were the first on our street to have the foundation repaired but others are starting to have the same work done too. Ironically, my friends with KB houses a few blocks away have not had the same problems, and don't know of any neighbors with foundation problems either.

We live in a Centex home, haven't had any issues. No one is making any complaints on our Nextdoor either. House was built in 2012, and our neighborhood is just about done.

We live in a 15-year old KB neighborhood in the far NW side. No issues with our home (we've lived here almost 12 years), nor have we heard of anyone else in the neighborhood with issues. FWIW

KB quality, like most tract builders, is going to be price-point dependent. If you buy a 1500sf starter home with sheet siding and Formica counters in a neighborhood with 5' property lines, you're not going to have the same quality as the KB home built with brick/masonry exterior and better interior finishes in a neighborhood with bigger lots and a higher price point. I don't know how they're doing in starter neighborhoods, but they're selling a LOT of new homes at the $275k+ price point. And they're nice.

I have owned a KB home for over 2 years, we had them build it. I have be very happy with it, the Superintendent of our neighborhood has been great and addressed any issues right a way. Course I do have friends that built a kb home in Houston and there Superintendent cant be found, so I guess it really just depends on which neighborhood and who is overseeing the build. My electric bill has gone from 400 a month to around 150. Old house virus New house. So I do like that.

I am in Ft. Worth. Here is a picture I took of the KB house just built next door from my second floor window. The house had the service door option from their garage than led to the back yard, so the side yard fence was built to accommodate the door. But look what is in the way:

Please note that the fence is completely enclosed, there is no gate. The backyard is to the left.

If I bought the service door option and had to contend with this, I'd be a bit peeved.
