Having crossed off a good number of the box-home builders, I still have these two left on my list. We would really like a new construction, but not sure it is going to happen in our price range and location ($225-ish in the NISD school district).

But I have not found any "fatal flaws" with M/I or Meritage. Can anyone provide any information about either of these?

(Also, I don't mean that all of the other builders we looked at were bad; some just didn't have lots or floorplans or tax rates or HOA fees that worked for us).

We bought a house from M/I this summer and we've been very happy with the experience. The price range may be higher than what you wanted but interest rates are really low and payments might come out better than expected. M/I had been giving a $20K credit on some inventory houses.
