I happened to be awake, waiting to go to the airport since my flight was delayed 45 minutes...

Me too, I can't stand the poor service at bandera and 1604 and I say this having visited that IHOP on and off for the past year, the service just doesn't get any better. When it's IHOP time I have to take the family to the one on Bandera and 410, fast service, & kind workers. It would be nice to see one open near 1604 and culebra much, much, closer.

Speaking of competition, I don't know if I posted this before, but here it goes again.
My wife was at Home Depot a couple of months ago, getting some paint supplies or something and the shelves were almost bare (think old mother hubbard). While she was standing there looking a couple of HD employees and as she explains it, "some guy in a polo shirt, like a regional manager or something." brought the employees over and said, "What the h3!! are we doing here? Look, this lady can't find anything in here. You guys do realize they're building a Lowes across the street, don't you? How are we supposed to compete when this place looks the way it does."
Here's to hoping the competition at Bandera and Potranco keeps these new places neat, orderly and with friendly employees. I stopped going to HD for a while when I lived on the other side of town because the one at the Forum is a constant wreck, and a nightmare to get in and out of, but mostly because it was trashed.

Hey, me too. Bandera 1604 we always wait 45 minutes for food but at 410 they're fast and friendly and squeeze us into that booth that everyone sees is still open but for some reason left unseated.
In fact, we no longer will frequent the 1604 and Bandera store. The other one near lackland off 410 is also good.

There's something that I've been wanting to ask for a while:
Do a lot of people around here really drive 20 minutes or more just to go to a restaurant? Is it that common? (I'm not bashing, but it's something I'm not familiar with...before we moved to SA, we normally drove 10 minutes or less to a restaurant.)
The idea of driving from Alamo Ranch to anything east of Sea World, north of The Rim, or south of Potranco is...well...a bit confusing. Especially for a place like IHOP (nothing against IHOP--we love their breakfasts).

It's probably all relative, as in where you're coming from. We stopped at Carrabbas out on 10 the other week, but we were heading back from a shoe store on 281 and didn't feel like waiting in line for Hooters...

Apparently you've never had a Chris Madrid's burger. I'll drive the extra distance for one of those.
San Antonio has always been "big" as in laid out--and when gas was $1 a gallon, who cared? Now that it's gone up so high, yeah, naturally we're all looking for stuff that's closer.

Dim ~ I hate to drive further than about 20 minutes for anything, unless it's downtown (I LOVE downtown ~ and it's only about 20 minutes from our house), or a specifically recommended eatery that there is nothing comparable to nearby. Other than that, everything is close by (in our "community").
Good question!!!

Dim--she means The Cove, Green, or that Dippity Do place where she gets her hair cut.
But there are several "destination" restaurants in SA--IHOP not being one of them, at least to me.
