Not just Texas, but many states require that you notify them when a vehicle is sold or otherwise transferred to a new owner. Few people actually do it, but when not done, the prior owner leaves himself open to all kinds of problems.

Worst case, the vehicle is used in some sort of felonious criminal activity and the cops show up with guns drawn and a warrant for the arrest of the former owner.

Always notify your state of the transfer if it provides a mechanism, mandatory or not.

I doubt that.

It's safe to say there is a likelyhood that a vehicle is being operated (usually leagally) by someone other than the registered owner at any given time. Other family/household member, relative, friend, mechanic at the garage, mother's cousin's boyfriend, you name it. What are the odds that someone uses their own legally registered vehicle to commit a crime? You figure law enforcement agencies know maybe someone other than the legal owner is driving a vehicle at any given time? Does every registered vehicle owner ensure that their registration reflects their current address of residence?

Still would be best to file a Notice of Vehicle Transfer at the time of sale, though. And I thought car dealers were supposed to remove the license plates from vehicles that were traded in to them (in effect for the last few years)?

In the case of towing and impound fees becoming delinquent, what is the worst thing that could happen? A lien gets placed on the vehicle? The vehicle gets auctioned off by the lienholder?

I think a lot of vehicles that get traded in to these new-car mega-dealer chains, get sent to wholesale buyers who auction them off to other dealers, unless maybe they are late-model pristene specimens. Who knows where they end up?

You traded in your car to Gillman Honda about a year ago, so on the paperwork that you received from Gillman Honda it states this, so call the number and if needed fax a copy of this to John Deloach Enterprises dba Bexar Towing and Austin, simple case closed.
