SeaWorld Entertainment announced Monday it is starting an effort to develop resorts next to its water parks in San Antonio and other cities, executives said in an investor relations call Monday.
Executives also announced that SeaWorld is responding to customer feedback by ending its theatrical killer whale show in San Diego next year and replacing it with a new show focused more on “natural settings” and “natural behaviors.” They didn’t mention ending any shows in San Antonio.

I read somewhere else (cant remember where) that the expectation is that all Shamu shows will be gone eventually. The whales will remain but in more of a "in their natural habitat" kind of thing versus performing. San Diego is the beginning.

Their stock tanked, their attendance dropped. People were angry and it hit their bottom line: Seaworld has no choice but to make changes.

Happy to see them reconfigure their business model. Blackfish was real and now it's up to Seaworld to make changes.

Seaworld should have developed resorts around their properties for years. I'm not sure why they didn't have an on-site hotel years ago.

Disney realized you could have crappy hotels and charge an arm and a leg for them on their property.

It's not pressure from the film, it's pressure from decreasing attendance, public out cry and a negative perception nationally.

None of that changes the fact that Blackfish is a propaganda film that twisted truth and made up things to fit their narrative.

The public being dumb enough to buy into it is the real problem.

Seaworld (especially in SA) is no Disney...not even close. People travel from all over the world to go to Disney World. People going to Seaworld aren't going to pay top dollar for a mediocre hotel/resort.
