There is a guy in town who wants to change the name Robert E Lee High School to Gregg Popovich High School! As a 1971 graduate of Lee (before political correctness disease ruined the fun in everything we do), I find this LUDICROUS! Changing the name is bad enough, but changing it to the name of a person who is still alive, and NOT a historical figure is just plain dumb.

I think it's a great idea, but my Spurs fandom may have clouded my decision.

If they want to name a school after Pop, then do so with a new school.
Leave Lee as-is.

I agree!!! There is no need to re-name the school in this case.

It is like Cesar Chavez street, they should have just picked a new street to name it that.

I have a feeling that Gregg Popovich doesn't even like this idea himself because he is a pretty low key man.

Since Popovich himself doesn't like the idea or want the honor, no one needs to worry about this happening.

A) Stupid idea to even consider changing the name

B) The guy proposing the idea clearly does NOT want the named changed but only suggested Popovich High School IF they decided to go through with a name change

In this quote from that link you provided:

Quote:
Im not advocating to change the name, but if it does change, it should be to honor one of our own, Casasola said in a phone interview with mySA.com. I think Popovich exemplifies several of the characteristics young people of today should strive for leadership, commitment, loyalty and the way he and RC Buford have created an organization that is envied in all sports.
He lost me when he compared Pop to RC Buford. Unlike Coach Pop, I don't think RC Buford is all that.

Foolish, foolish San Antonio

We once named things after people who did truly great things for the world. Now, we run to name a building after the coach of a professional sports team.
